Criminal |Charges Dropped Against Golfer Scottie Scheffler
Golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested by Officer Police on May 17 outside Valhalla Golf Club before his second round. Scottie was facing charges including second-degree assault on officer, third-degree damages to property, driving carelessly, and disobeyed visual traffic signal.
Jefferson County Attorney Mike O'Connell requested the charges be dropped after a review, after insufficient evidence. Scottie welcomed the decision on social media, calling it an "unfortunate misunderstanding" and expressing respect for the police.
Scottie’s attorney, Steve, confirmed that Scottie would not file a civil lawsuit and would focus on his golf .
The tournament was delayed by 80 minutes due to a shuttle bus accident involving a pedestrian, John Mills. Scheffler, uninvolved in the accident, was stopped by Officer Gillis while trying to avoid the scene.
Scottie was released in time for his second round and finished the tournament tied for eighth place.
